Be one of the first in 2018 to support our mission to end the trade in big cats!

We have 70 precious reasons to ask you to please consider making a donation to Big Cat Rescue. Their names circle the alphabet several times over: from Apollo (lynx) to Zeus (tiger). From Armani (leopard) to Zabu (white tiger). From Ariel (bobcat) to Zimba (serval). And from Ares (cougar) to Zucari (serval).

As 2018 roars into gear, we are so grateful for everyone who has visited our sanctuary, followed our cats on social media, taken action to help us pass the Big Cat Public Safety Act and generously donated to our sanctuary. It is only because of your financial support that we can continue to rescue abused, neglected and abandoned exotic cats around the country and provide them with the best possible nutrition and medical care at our sanctuary.

Perry Wildlife Zoo - Wardensville - Reviews of Perry ...

I never got to visit the zoo before they shutted down in 2013. It's been almost 5 years. I want another zoo in WV. The Wildlife Center (French Creek), Hovatter's Zoo (Kingwood), and Good Zoo (Wheeling) are the only 3 zoos I got to visit.

Perry Wildlife Zoo (Wardensville) - 2021 All You Need to ...

I visited the Perry Zoo with my son, grandson, and daughter-in-law.  We had a wonderful time.  I was so looking forward to taking my great nieces and nephews for the day.  I am disappointed to learn of the shut down.

I just called and the message states that this Zoo is no longer operating.  That is unfortunate.

We had a great time at the zoo---6 adults, 3 children--we all had a wonderful visit--very friendly place and the variety of animals was a surprise--all the animals seemed healthy and happy especially with the heat--animals were well taken care of--i would rate this destination as a 10 plus--thanks again for having a nice place to take children.

I was so excited to take my children to the same place I grew up going to feed the bears! The same couple has owned the place for 28 years. They were both busy caring for the animals when we got there today so if you don't get an answer when you call thats probably the reason. The hours are from 10-5. We had a great time visiting and the drive was just beautiful!

This couple is well trained and have been doing big animal care for decades. There is no animal cruelty, they treat all animals with the utmost care. If you haven't been there then don't comment on something you know nothing about. They have gone through all aspects of government and state licensing and go through inspections regularly. They have repeat customers yearly. Find something else to blog about.

I have been taking my kids to the Perry Zoo for 7 years.  WE enjoy going several times every summer.  I have always been impressed with how much the owners care for their animals...no, it's not you're typical "zoo", but this is the country and these are good "country folk"..........they care for their animals the same any of us 'country" people care about our pets.  I've seen them handle their animals and have never once doubted the welfare of the animals.  This is a wonderful place to just relax during a nice summer day and enjoy seeing some wonderful animals no it's not a multi million dollar facility, but it's still very adequate, just because it's not what some are used to, doesn't mean it's wrong...I assure you, we make as many trips a year there as we can....and enjoy it more every time smile.gif

By the way people I know that they do rescue some animals.  In fact many years ago my mother and I went to look at a house to buy and found a poor starved goat tied to a cynderblock in the woods.  And Mr and Mrs Baker gave her a great home for her entire life.  And Old EMMIE loved them and she had a wonderful life.

I have been to the zoo ever since I was a child and I am 32yrs old.  And as for the bad reviews they aren't true.  Maybe it looked a lil too country for the city folk.  But the owners Mr and Mrs Baker are wonderful people and take great care of their animals.  And I am an active member of the Humane Society in fact my mother runs a local Humane Society.  So believe me we would notice any neglect or abuse.  And there isn't any!  It is a great place to take the kids and after you go keep on driving and go to trout pond.  Its a great manmade beach for the kids, beautiful picnic area, hiking trails and camping area.

Our kids love it there!!! And I still do too!!!

I have taken my children to Perry Zoo every year since they were born, My son is now 14 and my daughter is now 17, and now I have foster children. The staff has always treated my family with kindness and respect, and have always givin all my children the opportunity to ask questions, feed the animals, and occassionally hold one of the baby's that are born there at the zoo. I have seen the owners take very good care of the animals, and even treat the llama's like their children. The cost to get into the zoo is very reasonable, the animals love the attention, and it's not a congested with alot of people pushing and shoving and being rude. It is a layed back zoo, that gives the families opportunities to enjoy their visit there, and not worry about someone stealing your belongings or your children. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that would like to get away from the hussel and bussel of city life and enjoy a wonderful day in the country with wonderful people.

We enjoy our trips to the Zoo and would recommend it.  It's not the DC zoo but it is nice.  For a country zoo I think it is very nice.  The people have always been very good to us.

We visited Perry Zoo today.  As usual, the place seemed well maintained, the animals all had clean water and fresh food available, adn my family enjoyed their time there.

I agree that the panther and adult tiger seem cramped, and they don't appear to have access to anything other than small concrete cages.  The baboons seemed neurotic ... they screamed and smacked at the glass when my daughter walked by.  And yes, that whole 'yard sale' vibe in the picnic area was pretty bizarre ... that was new.

However, the bears have an amazing jungle gym area.  The lions have new chairs that they clearly enjoy lounging in.  Some of the smaller animals had fresh fruit in their bowls.  I did not see ANY dirty water in any of the enclosures.  Other than the entry room with the ferrets, I did not notice any urine/feces smells at all.  The big snakes had fresh air, clean cages, and places to hide.  The grass/lawn is tidy and nicely maintained throughout the property.  There are bottles of hand sanitizer strategically placed throughout the property ... available for anyone who wishes to use it.  Warning posts, and signs are everywhere, with instructions about the names and origins of the animals, and whether or not it's ok to feed them.

It's obvious that the man who runs this place cares about his animals.  He talked to me for a while about how much the lions enjoy their chairs, and how they have tried different things to entertain and keep the animals happy, entertained, safe, and comfortable.  In fact, every time I'm there he takes time to speak to my family, to welcome us, and to share a story about something new or funny that has happened there recently.

This place is truely in the middle of nowhere.  But it's a GORGEOUS drive, the people are nice, the facility is clean, and my children enjoy visiting there.  If you don't like to see animals in cages, then don't go.  If you are looking for an interesting place to visit, I'd recommend it.

We are so glad this Zoo is back in operation. Please come and support the efforts to keep "family friendly" entertainment in the rural areas. The owners are so nice and really love the animals. Come see FRED the black bear, many other bears, photo opportunities with animals, horses, lions, big huge ELK, monkeys, much, much more. Very clean. There area also tables you can have a picnic. Off the beaten path but so worth it.

This place is great. Escpecially if you are already vacationing in the area, camping at Trout Pond or Lost River State Park. The admission is super cheap. The owners are amazingly nice and very attentive to the animals. There is quite a variety of animals. The trails are spacious, clean, grass, and it is easy to push a stroller. Worth the extra travel out in the Country.
